Visiting Alberton - Directions

How you arrive in Alberton all depends on how you get to Prince Edward Island. You can either drive, fly, or take the car ferry. The information listed below will tell you how to get to Alberton using each of the methods listed above.

Driving
If you wish to drive to Alberton, you can do so by means of the Confederation Bridge. The Confederation Bridge stretches across the Northumberland Strait from Borden-Carleton, P.E.I. to New Brunswick near Bayfield. Once you have travelled through New Brunswick and have crossed the Confederation Bridge, you will arrive in the Community of Borden-Carleton. From there, Alberton is only a 95 kilometer (59 mile) drive:

-Take Route 1 and drive approximately 7 km.
-Exit onto Route 1A and drive approximately 21 km.
-Enter the roundabout and take the second exit onto Route 2 and drive approximately 47 km.
-Turn right onto Cascumpec Road (Route 12) and drive approximately 19 km.
-Turn right to continue on Route 12 which becomes Church Street in Alberton

The driving time from the P.E.I. side of the Confederation Bridge to Alberton is approximately 1 hour, 35 minutes.

Flying
The sole commercial airport for Prince Edward Island is the Charlottetown Airport located in the provincial capital, Charlottetown. Flight information can be found by clicking on the link for the Charlottetown Airport. Finding Alberton from this point is quite simple:

- Head north on Maple Hills Avenue and drive approximately 58m.
- Take the first left to stay on Maple Hills Avenue and drive approximately 300m.
- Turn right onto Sherwood Road and drive approximately 2 km.
- Turn right onto Malpeque Road (Route 2) and drive approximately 4 km.
- Continue on Route 2 and drive approximately 38 km.
- Turn left at Victoria Street West in Kensington to continue on Route 2 and drive approximately 8.5 km.
- Enter the roundabout and take the first exit to contine on Route 2 and drive approximately 47 km.
- Turn right onto Cascumpec Road (Route 12) and drive approximately 19 km.
- Turn right to continue on Route 12 which becomes Church Street in Alberton

The distance between Charlottetown Airport and Alberton is approximately 119 kilometers (74 miles) a driving time of approximately 2 hours.

Car ferry
Northumberland Ferries operate from May to mid-December between Wood Islands, P.E.I. and Caribou, Nova Scotia. Information on crossings can be obtained by dialing 1-888-249-7245. The distance between Wood Islands and Alberton is approximately 185 km (116 miles):

- After departing the ferry terminal, drive on Route 1 for approximately 62 km.
- Turn right onto University Avenue (Route 2) in Charlottetown and drive approximately 4 km.
- Continue onto Malpeque Road (Route 2) and drive approximately 6 km.
- Continue onto Route 2 and drive approximately 38 km.
- Turn left onto Victoria Street West in Kensington to continue on Route 2 and drive approximately 8.5 km.
- Enter the roundabout and take the first exit to contine on Route 2 and drive approximately 47 km.
- Turn right onto Cascumpec Road (Route 12) and drive approximately 19 km.
- Turn right to continue on Route 12 which becomes Church Street in Alberton

The driving time between Alberton and Wood Islands is approximately 2 hours, 50 minutes.
